The Application – OEM Integration & Components acts as the primary technical interface between customers and internal Tecan functions (Sales, Marketing, R&D, Quality, and Product Management). This role focuses on supporting OEM customers integrating Tecan Components into IVD, clinical diagnostics, and life-science instrumentation.

The Specialist ensures the optimal selection and successful implementation of Tecan Components based on customer application needs. This includes software and firmware integration guidance, hands-on troubleshooting, and workflow-level architecture support.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in Java, C#, Python, and familiarity with embedded systems or firmware-level concepts. This person helps customers overcome integration challenges, supports rapid development, reduces time-to-market, and prevents future service issues by ensuring robust system-level design.

The role provides advanced technical and application support during pre-sales and post-sales activities, enabling Tecan to be positioned as a world-class OEM solutions provider.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support OEM customers integrating Tecan Component products into IVD instruments, clinical automation platforms, and life-science research systems.
  • Provide guidance on software integration, including use of the Tecan APIs/SDKs (C#, Java, Python) and communication protocols for motion systems, pumps, robotics, and liquid handling components.
  • Assist customers and internal teams in firmware behavior understanding, debugging integration issues related to firmware revisions, and coordinating with R&D Firmware Engineering when needed.
  • Diagnose system-level issues across mechanics, electronics, firmware, and API layers.
  • Identify OEM integration requirements, including regulatory considerations (IVD, design controls) that impact implementation.
  • Provide technical training to OEM customers on integration, usage, maintenance, troubleshooting, and software best practices.
  • Support Sales Managers with high-complexity technical demonstrations, including workflow simulations and component performance evaluations.
  • Conduct technical evaluations of new product releases, including software verification, firmware compatibility testing, performance data collection, user-interface evaluation, and maintenance-ease assessments.
  • Run hands-on experiments and integration tests to resolve customer issues, coordinating with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software R&D resources as needed.
  • Maintain complete and accurate customer documentation within SAP CRM according to Tecan policies.
  • Share findings, customer feedback, and special requirements with Product Management, R&D, Quality, and Marketing.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge by attending training sessions, trade shows, and reviewing industry standards, competitive offerings, and IVD automation trends.
  • Support Tecan’s Quality System and adhere to ISO 13485, design control practices, and internal procedures.

TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS in Life Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent industry experience considered.
  • 3+ years of laboratory/automation/IVD instrumentation experience.
  • 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience with robotics, automation, OEM components, or instrument development.
  • Strong programming experience required: Java, C#, Python (SDK/API integration).
  • Experience working with communication protocols (CAN, RS-232, USB, Ethernet), REST APIs, and embedded/firmware behaviors is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workflows in clinical diagnostics, IVD instrument development, and life-science applications.
  • Experience in OEM integration, product management, technical pre-sales, or solution selling is a plus.
  • Self-starter with adaptability in fast-changing technical environments.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized with strong documentation, planning, and time-management abilities.
  • Proven team player capable of working with cross-functional teams (R&D, QA, Sales, PM).
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to support OEM customers and Sales Managers.
