Head of Finance & Controlling Operations (CDMM)

Location: Morgan Hill, CA, USA
Salary: 150K-200K
Position Type: Full-Time 


Position Summary

The Head of Finance & Controlling Operations is responsible for leading all financial controlling activities for the CDMM manufacturing site in Morgan Hill. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, robust cost controlling, and strong business partnership with Operations, Supply Chain, and Site Leadership.

The position plays a key role in driving operational performance through financial insights, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring compliance with internal and external financial standards. It also provides functional leadership to local finance controllers and serves as a key interface between site operations and Group Finance.


Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop the local finance and controlling team
  • Provide functional leadership to Operations Finance Controllers
  • Ensure effective workload planning, performance management, and capability development
  • Drive alignment with Group Finance policies and standards

2. Cost Control & Manufacturing Controlling

  • Own and manage site-level COGS and gross margin performance
  • Lead product costing activities including BOMs, standard costs, labor rates, and overhead allocation
  • Analyze manufacturing variances including PPV, efficiency, and usage variances
  • Monitor inventory levels, valuation, and slow-moving stock risks
  • Ensure cost transparency and implement cost-saving initiatives

3. Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting

  • Lead annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for the site
  • Coordinate input from Operations, Supply Chain, and Group Finance
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, annual)
  • Analyze deviations vs. budget, forecast, and prior year
  • Develop and enhance operational financial dashboards and reporting tools

4. Business Partnering & Decision Support

  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to Site Management and Operations teams
  • Support make vs buy decisions and sourcing strategies
  • Develop financial models and business cases for operational initiatives
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis for leadership decision-making
  • Participate in cross-functional projects as financial business partner

5. Supply Chain & Operational Support

  • Collaborate with Procurement on material pricing and cost optimization
  • Support production planning and operational efficiency initiatives
  • Ensure optimal inventory management strategies
  • Support strategic production and capacity planning decisions

6. Systems & Process Ownership

  • Serve as subject matter expert for SAP CO/BW, OneStream, and IBP
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data across systems
  • Support system enhancements, upgrades, and implementations
  • Train local teams on financial systems and reporting tools
  • Continuously improve finance processes and automation

7. Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with internal control frameworks and Group Finance guidelines
  • Maintain strong audit readiness and documentation standards
  • Support internal and external audit requirements
  • Ensure adherence to accounting policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., IFRS/GAAP as applicable)

8. Project & Transformation Support

  • Lead financial controlling for key projects, including S/4HANA implementation
  • Monitor project budgets, milestones, and financial impact
  • Support integration of acquisitions or operational expansions
  • Provide financial insights for transformation initiatives

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
  • Professional certification (CPA, CMA, or equivalent) preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in finance controlling or FP&A
  • Strong background in manufacturing or industrial environments required
  • Proven experience in plant controlling, costing, and COGS management
  • Experience in leadership or team management roles
  • Experience with system implementations or transformation projects preferred

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of SAP (CO/BW) required
  • Experience with OneStream and IBP strongly preferred
  • Strong Excel and financial modeling capabilities
  • Experience with reporting and BI tools

Languages

  • Fluent in English (required)
  • Spanish or Vietnamese is a plus
