Mechanical Inspection Lead

Onsite – Morgan Hill, CA  95037
Day Shift (7AM-3:30PM) Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $30/HR - $36/HRLY

As a Mechanical Inspection Lead, you will support the overall performance of the Receiving Inspection Department by helping prioritize inspection activities, coordinate assignments, maintain part throughput, and support process and procedural training. You will also serve as a technical resource and mentor to less experienced inspectors.

 

This position requires strong mechanical inspection expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently on a wide range of components while ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.

 

 

How Will You Make an Impact?

  • Support daily inspection activities, including inspection priorities, assignments, and part throughput.
  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of mechanical components to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and inspection plans.
  • Follow documented Mechanical Inspection procedures, work instructions, and established quality processes.
  • Verify mechanical parts meet dimensional, visual, and other applicable inspection requirements.
  • Perform inspections using precision measurement equipment, including CMM, OMM, calipers, micrometers, drop indicators, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Identify, document, and communicate part rejection reasons in accordance with the Material Review Board (MRB) process.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and receiving records.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and process training to less experienced inspectors.
  • Serve as a resource for inspection-related questions and support consistent application of inspection procedures.
  • Communicate inspection issues and quality concerns to appropriate internal teams.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, Materials, Engineering, and other departments to address inspection-related issues.
  • Support continuous improvement of inspection processes and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by department management.

Your Background

  • 5+ years of experience as a Quality Assurance/Quality Control Inspector in a manufacturing, laboratory, medical device, or similar environment.
  • 2+ years of CMM operation or programming experience preferred.
  • Experience performing incoming, in-process, and final inspections of machined and precision-manufactured components.
  • Strong ability to interpret mechanical drawings, inspection plans, specifications, and dimensional requirements.
  • Thorough understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ANSI Y14.5.
  • Working familiarity with AQL sampling inspection.
  • Experience using precision inspection equipment such as CMM, OMM, calipers, micrometers, drop indicators, gauges, and other measurement tools.
  • Experience working with a variety of materials and finishes, including aluminum, steel, plastics, Delrin, passivation, anodized, and annealed materials.
  • Experience documenting nonconformances and communicating part rejection reasons through an MRB or similar quality process.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 standards, quality control procedures, and inspection documentation.
  • Medical device manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment with strong quality and documentation requirements.
  • Previous experience mentoring, training, or providing technical guidance to other inspectors preferred.
  • Ability to perform calculations in both inch and metric units using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively supporting and mentoring team members.
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Salary range: $30/hrly– $$36/hrly
