Director, Applications

What you will do

The Director, Applications will establish priorities and execute the strategies of the Tecan US Applications team. Provide technical leadership and professional development for Application Scientists Team Managers and oversees the development of the overall team.  An application solution is defined as a combination of biology, software, scripted protocols and hardware that target a specific application. These application solutions could include instrument and reagent components from one or more Tecan Business Units or with third party vendors. This position will serve as an expert and knowledge source for the Tecan leadership team and Tecan sales teams. 

 

Responsibilities will include

  • Provide direct management and technical leadership within the Liquid Handling and Detection Applications and Automation field teams, providing specific application expertise as needed. 
  • Ensure the pre-sales Applications team is focused and aligned with the Liquid Handling and Detection sales teams to maximize Tecan US’ revenue while growing customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain effective time, territory, and account management practices
  • Works regularly with the Liquid Handling Application Team Managers to insure customer satisfaction and to realize revenue on a predictable and timely manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining sales and application scientist continuing education training programs.
  • Participate in sales, marketing and product strategy meetings Morrisville, NC, on a regular basis to ensure we remain on target to achieve predetermined goals.
  • Gives feedback to management regarding new potential applications or competition in the marketplace.
  • Collaborate with L1 and other L2 team members to ensure excellent flow of information from both the field and customers to product management and back again.
  • Participate in marketing and sales meetings at Tecan sites when appropriate.
  • Collect and maintain up-to-date competitive and market information to disseminate to the sales force as well as the marketing and manufacturing sites.
  • Direct involvement in marketing activities, including but not limited to, conference attendance, support of collaboration partners, provide technical content for marketing material.
  • Handle essential tasks as assigned and respond to change productively.
  • Follow all local safety procedures, State and Federal OSHA Regulations, and report any safety concerns.

Your main management tasks:

  • Supervise Liquid Handling Application Team Managers. Responsible for coaching, training and development of the team managers.  
  • Co-ordinate support for Sales Staff and where appropriate FAE’s with the Regional Sales Managers and Service Managers as required. 
  • Work with Sales and Service to provide appropriate levels of support to key accounts. 
  • Assist in the continuous evaluation of new corporate partners, key accounts, and technologies needed to further advance sales

 

Experience

  • BSc, MSc, or PhD, in one of the following fields; Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Microbiology.
  • 5- 8 years relevant liquid handling and automation experience gained within an academic or industry setting including writing automation applications in instrument native language or software.  Previous management experience required.   
  • Must have the interest and desire to lead people, previous management experience is required. Must have the ability to communicate with and understand the needs of both internal and external customers, and recognize and manage potential problem areas and resolve them with integrity.
