Director, Business Development

What you will do

The Director, Business Development is responsible for developing and managing a business plan with respect to key accounts.  This role identifies trends among key accounts and emerging key accounts and develops and executes business plans to maximize Tecan’s growth among these accounts.  The persons is responsible for managing and owning the relationships within these accounts and is responsible for growing and developing the sales of all direct Tecan products, services and consumables to these accounts. This position leads and provides guidance to the Tecan employees who may have a local relationship to a specific branch or site of the Key Account. A Key account could be a direct purchaser of Tecan products & services, a third party distributor, or corporate collaborator. 

 

Responsibilities will include

  • Closely monitors external market trends and specific business opportunities with Key Accounts and emerging Key Accounts. Develops business plans to maximize Tecan’s opportunities within these accounts.
  • Ensures the daily sales management within the defined key accounts.
  • Identify needs and requirements of the account to promote Tecan’s solutions and achieve mutual satisfaction.
  • Act as the liaison between the key account and the internal Tecan associates who have local roles by keeping everyone informed with trends and opportunities within these assigned accounts.
  • Align with the pre-sales Applications team to be focused on maximizing Tecan US’ revenue while growing customer satisfaction.
  • May include direct management responsibility of specific distribution channel partner.
  • Develop and maintain effective time, territory, and account management practices.
  • Responsible for regular conference calls and meetings with specific individuals who have responsibilities and connection with Key Accounts.
  • Build relationships within many departments of the accounts to improve relationship and secure a smooth process for approvals and procurement.
  • Responds to problems or complaints that arise in accounts, either by personal action or by securing the assistance and support from others in the organization.
  • Work regularly with the Service Regional Technical Manager to insure customer satisfaction and to realize revenue on a predictable and timely manner.
  • Maintain effective time, territory, and account management practices.
  • Maintain accurate and timely information in the current CRM system.
  • Responsible for implementing pricing and discounting guidelines to ensure profitability targets are met.
  • Participate in sales, marketing and product strategy meetings Morrisville, NC, on a regular basis to ensure we remain on target to achieve predetermined goals.
  • Collect and maintain up-to-date competitive and market information to disseminate to the sales force as well as the marketing and manufacturing sites.
  • Direct involvement in marketing activities, including but not limited to national trade shows, local shows, collaborations with partner companies, etc.
  • Work within guidelines of company travel and expense policies.
  • Complete all reports and customer information effectively and consistently as deemed necessary by the company.
  • Give feedback to management regarding new potential applications or competition in the marketplace.
  • Follow all local safety procedures, State and Federal OSHA Regulations, and reports any safety concerns.

Experience

  • BS degree in Life Sciences or equivalent. 
  • 5-8 years previous experience, including  Sales, Sales Management and/or Product Management.
  • Broad industry knowledge with microplate instrumentation and laboratory automation is required.
  • Familiarity with the latest developments in management techniques.
  • Practical knowledge of Windows Applications.
  • Experience in establishing budgets, planning, forecasting and P&L is desired but not required
  • Experience in international economics, marketing and information systems is desired but not required
  • Knowledge of several languages may be beneficial.
