Senior Systems Egineer

What you will do

As a Sr. Systems Engineer within Tecan's Product Development Team, you will lead design and development efforts in a broad range of areas such as mechatronics, fluidics, thermal control, optics, Chassis, and life science instrumentation controls. In this role, you will be a critical part of a cross-functional team that develops complex instrumentation for customers ranging from young start-ups to well-established companies.  

Responsibilities will include

• Architect products for customers, including the development of optomechanical, optofluidics, and electromechanical systems to be used in the creation of product designs

• Leading development and testing of breadboards for risk mitigation
• Converting and managing system requirement trade-offs for requirements initially received from customers, and collaboratively revised to be verifiable product requirements
• Writing requirements for subsystems, software, optical, fluidic, and others as needed 
• System and subsystem-level debug
• Producing low-level engineering control software for breadboards
• Perform root cause analysis and failure investigation

• Develop, test, validate, integrate, and implement designs
• Author and conduct verification protocols
• Responsible for reporting to the Program Manager any situation that could affect customer satisfaction, including, but not limited to, deviations from the project’s current addendum, project scope, specifications, or schedule Interacts with peers and management, both within Tecan and the client company
• Presents a portion of the weekly internal and external project presentations, responsible for all technical content in the weekly presentations
• Contact with customers and third-party vendors to understand the project scope and completing Project specifications

Minimum Experience & Educational Requirements:

• 10+ years of relevant experience
• BS in engineering or science
• Excellent system development capabilities
• Ability to perform various forms of analysis, for example, FEA for fluidic, mechanical, electrical, or systems
• Experience utilizing a variety of software environments and programming languages for low-level machine control, such as matlab, C#, C++, Python, or other equivalents
• Proficient in using and leveraging communication tools such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, and PowerPoint) 
• Working knowledge of engineering software, such as Solidworks or Pro/Engineer to give design presentations

Preferred Experience & Educational Requirements:

• MS in engineering or science
• Experience in the use of Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other similar off the shelf DIY tools 
• Experience with 3D printing on Object, FDM, Stereolith, or other applicable 3D printing technologies
• Bioengineering experience
