Technical Program Manager

What you will do

The Technical Program Manager leads and manages technical teams consisting of up to10 engineers for scientific and IVD instrumentation and associated consumable/cartridge development projects.  These teams typically consist of engineers, technicians, and specialist in a variety of disciplines such as systems engineering, mechanical engineering, fluidics/microfluidics, optics, electrical engineering, firmware and software engineering, industrial design, and biochemistry/molecular biology. 

 

Responsibilities will include

  • Driving projects in close collaboration with the customers and ensures with dynamic and agile project management style good and customer focused products and solutions. 
  • Actively engaging with external customers and with internal marketing and systems engineering in defining/reviewing product requirements (including product cost and quality goals) and generating project proposals to deliver product that best satisfies customer needs and intended use.
  • Overall responsible for the on-time, on-budget execution of projects in compliance with applicable internal and external regulations and procedures.
  • Managing projects to meet requirements, quality, timeline, COGS and budget expectations from inception through product release in compliance with Tecan’s or customer’s product development procedures as well as all applicable standards.
  • Ensuring close communication and coordination with stake holders for each project (Marketing, Customers, Purchasing, Logistics and Production, Quality etc.)
  • Reporting on project status, schedule and cost / budget as required by local and global stake holders including creating regular project reports if needed. Ensuring that reporting content is generated by subordinate project leaders.
  • Providing direction, guidance, and mentorship to team members 
  • Contributing to and approving system architecture and designs

 

 

What you bring along

  • B.S., M.S., Ph. D. or equivalent in an engineering discipline such as mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering.
  • Candidates should have a deep understanding of one or more biotech/life science fields and at least 5 years of relevant industry experience leading managing interdisciplinary teams to develop complex instrumentation and/or consumables/cartridges.  It is also highly desirable for candidates to have 5 or more years of direct hands-on engineering experience with complex instrumentation
  • Experience working with outside clients and customers
  • Proven ability to interact with key stakeholders to understand project scope and product requirements as well as resolve conflicts
  • Excellent scientific and engineering knowledge
  • Systems engineering experience, system architecture development, and risk analysis experience
  • Extensive experience with a majority of the following software tools: MS Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
