Plastics Engineer

Your contribution

 

You will play a key role in the design and development of plastic parts and consumables for laboratory automation systems. You will support the R&D team in developing and modifying laboratory instruments, ensuring high-quality solutions that meet technical and regulatory requirements. Your expertise will help drive innovation, improve product functionality, and ensure the seamless integration of plastic components within complex systems. You will collaborate closely with project teams, suppliers, and other stakeholders to deliver robust and reliable products.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the mechanical design and development of plastic parts and consumables, including feasibility studies and variant evaluations.
  • Advise project teams on injection molding and plastics manufacturing, including fill simulations and supplier collaboration.
  • Draft specifications, test instructions, and technical documentation; plan, execute, and evaluate tests to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Support engineering testing, root cause analysis, and design reviews, focusing on early detection of design flaws.
  • Ensure development documentation and PLM data handling according to established processes.
  • Clarify technical requests from production, customer support, and product management, and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with processes, SOPs, guidelines, and quality standards, while meeting project objectives, deadlines, and budgets.

    

Your background

  • Technical degree, preferably in mechanical engineering or a related field; further education in technical sciences is an asset.
  • Experience in instrument or module development, ideally in the medical device industry and series production.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design engineering for plastic parts, including manufacturing techniques, design-to-cost, and integration into complex systems.
  • Experience with supplier evaluation, quality standards, and technical documentation.
  • Fluent in English and German, with strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Team-oriented, independent, and proactive, with a flexible and target-oriented mindset.
