Mechanical Engineer A 

What you will do

Responsible for independent research and development tasks of considerable importance and complexity relating to the more complicated phases of an over-all engineering project.

 

Uses best practices and procedures to solve problems in the analysis, design, development, implementation, modification, and testing of mechanical, and electro-mechanical components, sub-assemblies and systems used in instrumentation for the life sciences. Defines mechanical and robotics design and testing specifications. Analyzes, develops and recommends design approaches required to meet proposed product requirements. Reviews and approves related inputs such as drawings and specifications prepared by technical support personnel. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. Reviews vendor capability to support product development.

 

Responsibilities will include

  • Conducts engineering tests and/or scientific experiments, and evaluates results, exercising independent judgment within the limits of delegation utilizing established engineering and research techniques.
  • Researches new mechanical engineering practices, procedures and tools to maintain proficiency and experience with emerging technologies.
  • Interacts with customers and/or suppliers in resolution of specific problems unique to their respective applications.
  • Works closely with all departments of the organization, such as Marketing and Production, to plan and coordinate project activities and communicate status.
  • Normally receives assignments from engineering management or project leaders. Exercises considerable discretion as to work detail, tools, etc. Communicates status to senior management as needed. May assign work to and direct draftsmen and engineering technicians as required.
  • Ensures that product test, design and development work is documented in conformance with the Tecan Quality Management System.
  • Supports the Quality System and Quality Policy by following procedures / work instructions and creating records to meet the requirements of the Tecan Quality Management System.

 

What you bring along

  • Requires BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent plus 3-5 years of applicable mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience in design of sheet metal and precision machined components essential.
  • Proficiency in 3D solid modeling design software required (Pro/E strongly preferred).
  • Good hands-on mechanical aptitude.
  • Biotechnology Instrumentation or Medical Device design and/or motion control experience a plus.
