R&D Technician

What you will do

General support of R&D team during new product development and sustaining activities under close supervision of the engineers involved.  Responsible for R&D machine shop.

 

Responsibilities will include

  • Assists engineers with assembly of breadboards and early prototypes, frequently with verbal guidance or limited documentation.
  • Assembles cables as needed including soldering and crimping of connectors.
  • Uses CMM and conventional measurement tools to characterize parts.
  • PCBA component replacement and cut-and-jumper including some surface-mount parts.
  • Responsible for organization and maintenance of small R&D machine shop.
  • Responsible for machine shop safety training.
  • Uses manual mill and lathe to make or modify parts.
  • Replenishes lab supplies as needed.
  • Investigates sources and options of needed parts and tools.
  • Fills out purchase requisitions. 
  • Places company credit card orders with suppliers when needed to supplement Purchasing.
  • Assists with lab and tool organization for the main R&D lab. 
  • Assists with gathering lab equipment for calibration as needed.
  • Assists test engineers with preparing and assembling test setups.
  • May perform simple repetitive testing/data collection per protocol from Test Engineer.

 

 

What you bring along

  • Requires AS or BS degree in an engineering related discipline or equivalent.
  • Highly organized, energetic
  • Strong attention to detail; logical thinking processes.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills required
  • Proactive; self-starter.
  • Mechanical aptitude with ability to assemble test set-ups, including electrical and fluid connections, required.
  • Skilled at soldering (IPC certification is a plus)
  • Skilled at operating manual knee-mill and manual tool-room lathe
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, primarily Word and Excel.
  • Manual SMT rework experience desirable (including 0402 packages)
  • Experience with mechanical test equipment such as tensile, torsion, environmental or vibration testing a plus
